conjuringseed asked: i'm a fan of your blog, i'm so glad it exists. i attend a pretty 'hipstery' university and i encounter this sort of stuff frequently. i'm curious as to your opinion on a predicament i face however. if ever i am to say to, oh let's say a young woman wearing a feathered bonnet at a party, that her actions are disrespectful, anyone who knows me will snap back with...

Cultural Appropriation in Japan →
I used to live in Japan for a few years and in one of the many foreigner orientated magazines there was an advert for the bar in the link. Just because these guys (white) are on the other side of the world, they most likely think they’re able to get away with cultural appropriation constantly. However I’m calling these guys out for their blasphemy and for encouraging their patrons to...

Whoops
The holiday season has been busier than we thought. We love family and good food, but hate the whole grossly commercialized shebang. We’ll be back with new stuff tomorrow, promise.

sisterabe asked: I actually did reply, and it wasn't a "comeback." Why does everything have to be an argument? I didn't discount your heartfelt opinion. Let me just say that your going about enlightening people in a brutal way. It doesn't really make people want to value your opinion. Sometimes mature people have conversations without tearing the other person down. You can't...
mr-lindsey asked: Hi ladies. I just read every page of your Tumblr and I really appreciate what you're doing--I'm always surprised at the number of people I know who don't realize that they're doing anything wrong by using Native regalia for fashion purposes. I've been a little baffled with the hipster love of all things Native since Natasha Khan started sporting the look, but I do have a...

sisterabe:
I just deleted the 3 or 4 posts that had to do with the warbonnet situation. Not because I’m running away from what I said or trying to hide it. I just refuse to air my political grievances in a public manner. I’d rather not be THAT person.
Boom.
Ooooh, great comeback. Conversations about politics and race are public. It seems you haven’t learned anything. The truth...

Yesh.: Unpopular Opinion Tieeeeeme. →
sisterabe:
I disagree with the idea that wearing an Indian headdress is inappropriate and/or disrespectful. Do we wear tiaras? Is that disrespectful to royalty? Do we wear camouflage? Does that represent war and genocide? Do I put my hand in the air? Must mean I support Nazis.
NOPE. I think people create mountains out of molehills way too often. Apparently it’s a big trend to claim...

Finals are done!
Which means maximum cultural appropriation commentary throughout the holiday break.
also, if you haven’t noticed - if you search “indian” or “headdress” or just about any cultural stereotype on Twitter, it becomes a hilarious rabbit hole of awful opinions. Which is why we’re launching….A TWITTER!

I know, it's been quiet over here
December is the busiest time of the year, no? and I HATE Christmas.
I’m in the middle of finals and Marquita has been working overtime. So we’re slacking….but we’re hoping to add more content this weekend.
I hope you’re having a non-culturally appropriated holiday season.

We DON'T Heart It, Pt. 1
We Heart It is a treasure trove of cultural appropriation. Who knew?!?! And this is just a taste of the beast.

Seriously thank you so much, I brought up "trend" to wear "Indian" clothes in my cultural anthro class last semester and someone equated it to "wearing ballet flats" and said it was "harmless appreciation of a culture". Yeah, she equated an entire group of people to a form of dance. Keep on keepin' on! <3
